Syracuse Teen Challenge
You are here
In 1971 a number of Christians in the CNY area met together to address the escalating drug crisis. In their first meeting they formed the Membership Council of Teen Challenge of Greater Syracuse. Within a few months a Board of Directors was established, our facility at 124 Furman St. was purchased from the Furman St. United Methodist Church (their former Parish Center) and renovations had begun. Our doors opened in 1974 and students began living there.
We are strategically located less than a mile from downtown Syracuse off S. Salina St. and only a few blocks from the University, near I-81 and 690.
We became a part of NY Adult & Teen Challenge in February 2017, joining with centers in Buffalo, Albany and Brooklyn under the direction of our corporate headquarters in Long Island. We continue to provide long term residential care for 26 individuals that includes spiritual counseling, discipleship, mentoring, work therapy, character training and other life-skills coaching for men of all ages (18 and over).
We have had great success in transforming some of the men who have come here. Many of our staff, volunteers and mentors are graduates of the program. Please do not hesitate to call if you know someone who needs our help.
